The files are stored on a Synology NAS and I use Plex as a media server (installed on the NUC ; the synology isn't powerful enough to do transcoding which I don't use the app on-board) with the client Plex Home Theatre (also installed on the NUC). The PC quickly became the computer for the whole family to watch videos, listen to music (Spotify), and surf the web, and even work.
